INSIGHTS FROM MOROCCO

Casablanca, Morocco | 25 March 2008

Orbitus journeyed to Morocco in March of 2008 to assess business opportunities in North Africa. We visited Casablanca, Rabat, and Marrakech and the rural Kasbah Tadla region flanking the Atlas Mountains on our trip. Through our engagement with the local population, we gained a deeper appreciation of the cultural, political and socioeconomic issues that factor into the general impressions of U.S. foreign policy throughout the region.

People across all social classes expressed their rejection of terrorism. However, they overwhelmingly asserted their discontent with the situations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan and Somalia. They see the state of affairs in the Middle East as having deteriorated significantly since U.S. involvement in Iraq. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is something most believe the U.S. government could leverage its power to resolve. People, however, want more than anything else for the U.S. to engage in economic reform and hope to see significant aid provided to the region at all possible capacities.

Orbitus is actively seeking opportunities to expand understanding of the region and assist in the improvement of America’s image overseas. By initiating a full-scale human terrain mapping program we will be able to move beyond anecdotal indicators and define a strategy to inform, engage and influence people across the region in a positive manner. human.terrain.mapping.htmlshapeimage_7_link_0
